We have built our business training tough, resourceful and good natured people to be their best. Current hourly wages start at $18/hr and can quickly be assessed upwards to $24/hr or more. We have a large, first class shop just off Hwy 97 N and maintain most of our equipment there ourselves. We offer flexible scheduling, 8-10 hour shifts and real choice over tasks and responsibilities. So if you choose, full time hours can be achieved in a 4 day workweek. We have the best equipment and contracts. A complete uniform is provided. We use a handy 2 way radio system that makes every shift a fun and interesting experience. Ice water is supplied on all of the rigs at no charge. Juice, sports drinks, energy drinks and soft drinks are supplied at a nominal cost. We offer a comprehensive, optional benefits package – including dental. Our regular staff meetings keep everyone in the loop and give us a chance to get feedback on how things are really going – we are always improving.

Asahi Contracting Ltd. is an award winning landscape maintenance gardening operation. We employ a good natured staff that tries to have fun every shift while doing an excellent job. ‘Asahi’ means ‘morning sun’ in Japanese. We specialize in landscape maintenance and renovation, ornamental pruning, annual flower displays and irrigation maintenance at medium and large, high profile commercial and strata type sites. The entry level position available is that of a full time landscape gardener’s helper. We are effectively always hiring February to November.
Our crews are our most valuable resource. These positions are not easy – but for the right type of person, this job or career can be very fulfilling. Experience is preferred but may not always be required. Your duties would include some or all of the following:
Mowing, trimming, edging and power blowing of lawns. Pruning, planting, and removing: trees, shrubs, and flowers. Raking, tarping and blowing landscape debris. Manually weeding plant beds. fertilizer and herbicide applicating. Irrigation maintenance and possibly machine maintenance. Equipment is heavy and sharp, conditions are often dusty and hot – just the way we like it!
This position is not a heavy equipment operator job. There are no bobcats, excavators etc. However, there are many high-end riding lawnmowers. You should be prepared to briskly walk several kilometers while on task each day. The full time positions involve the use of many different types of two stroke, gas powered, handheld machines. We pay overtime after 40 hours.

We are looking for someone who:
- Is at least 18 years old and physically fit. You should be able to regularly lift and carry 50-pound loads.
- Has an eye for detail, is personally organized and will be able to fit in with a regimented operation.
- Can demonstrate that in the past they have succeeded at a full time, physically demanding job (or sport – preferably in an outdoor setting).
- Ideally has lived in Kelowna for at least 6 months– unless significantly experienced or suitable.
- Is bondable (this can be explained), outgoing and personable. We are a first class team and you need to be a team player.
- Will have no trouble arriving at our shop or one of our sites each morning on time.
- Can cope in a fast-paced setting during our summer heat (30°C – 40°C for 2 months or more).
- Is prepared to read and understand our Employee Orientation and Training Manual.
- Is an upbeat person who can have some fun working in position like this!

SHOP DIRECTIONS: #8-710 Stremel Rd. Turn off Hwy 97 N at Orchard Ford. We are a couple of blocks down on the left. Sorry no drop ins without an appointment and there is no mail box! Please park along the east side of the property – farthest from the street. Last unit on the right.
FIRST DAY: Good hiking boots with cushioned insoles are recommended – low end steel toed boots are not. Running or skate shoes are only allowed during a short tryout period. You will also need work gloves and safety glasses. We do have them available for purchase. Other than that just bring a lunch and your ID and you are good to go.
